The fish was a reasonable size when your friend first described it. You remember because you were there. By the third telling it has developed a difficult relationship with the boat, and by the fifth there are people in the room making concerned noises about the equipment.

You could help. You possess several accurate measurements, a photograph, and the knowledge that the boat was never involved. You are also enjoying the part where your friend describes the weather. The weather had been mild and agreeable. It is now contributing atmosphere with a generosity neither of you experienced at the time.
