Say It Again — Heavyweight Tee

The message is seventeen seconds long. They are asking what time you want to meet and whether you know the place beside the station. Useful questions, both answered on the first listen. You play it again because you have developed an unusually conscientious attitude toward the details. On the third listen, the details remain exactly where they were.

It is their voice. You could attempt to make this more complicated, but there is very little point. A slight hesitation before they say your name, a laugh at something happening off to the side, the ordinary sound of a person you would very much like to have nearer. They could be reading the contents of a kitchen drawer and you would probably have opinions about which part to hear again.

When you meet, they ask whether the message arrived. You say yes, which is accurate but incomplete. They notice the incompleteness and enjoy it. You tell them they have a very distracting voice. They say your name again, quite deliberately this time, and you begin to suspect that honesty has supplied them with useful equipment.

You like the broad tee, the dark trousers, the outfit you put on while pretending the plan was simply to get a drink. It still is, technically. They ask what you're having. You give an answer and then, because the evening seems willing to cooperate, ask whether they can repeat the question.
