Pomelo — Fitted Tee

You asked them to bring something small. They arrive with a fruit the size of a reasonably committed opinion and explain that the ones in your local shop are never quite right. You move the bowl of ordinary fruit a little to the side. It appears to understand.

There is a method for opening it. Naturally. They demonstrate the first part, then hand it over at the point where you might benefit from close supervision. The peel is substantial. The advice is plentiful. By the time you reach the flesh, you have learned three things about choosing fruit and one thing about a person neither of you has seen for years.

You like being remembered this precisely. Someone saw something, considered its weight, and decided you should have it. Someone has arrived ready to stand in your kitchen and make sure you enjoy the good part. The gift takes up room, and so does the company.

You put a few segments on a plate and carry them to the table. They select one for you, apparently detecting a difference between this segment and the one you were about to take. You accept the recommendation. They ask what you think. You know the answer matters more than the casual tone suggests, so you finish chewing before giving it. They watch with considerable patience for somebody who has been explaining everything else.

It is excellent. You say so. They look pleased, then begin describing another one they had last week. Apparently you have started with the introductory fruit.
