Mirage — Heavyweight Crewneck

You remember the wall being pink. Your friend remembers a blue wall. You are discussing an evening that was, by every other account, very successful, but the color has become important now that one of you is wrong about it.

The drinks were good. This much is agreed. There was a song neither of you knew, a chair with a surprisingly low seat, and somebody wearing magnificent trousers. Your friend believes you were the one who asked about the trousers. You believe you displayed unusual restraint. Both versions flatter the person telling them.

You can remember your own outfit perfectly. You tried two jackets over the blue and cream crewneck, then decided you wanted people to see the colors and left both jackets on the bed. It was a good decision. Somebody you hadn't met before stopped you near the drinks to say so, and you remember enjoying the compliment without immediately explaining where you had bought everything. Your friend says you were wearing a jacket when you arrived. You ask if they are sure they attended the same evening.

Eventually a photograph appears. The wall was green. For a moment this feels like a poor result, then you notice the magnificent trousers in the corner of the frame. You were standing beside them, gesturing with the conviction of someone asking a perfectly reasonable question. You consider deleting the photograph, but your friend has a copy. This is one of the disadvantages of having close friends. They enlarge the picture. There is another wall visible through a doorway. Pink, you say. Blue, they say, and turn the phone slightly toward the light.
