Heliotrope — Pullover Hoodie

You have suggested karaoke in daylight, and now you have to live up to the kind of person who suggests karaoke in daylight. Fortunately, that person appears to own a very good purple hoodie and have only a loose relationship with embarrassment.

The group is smaller than expected. This gives everyone an alarming amount of opportunity. The confidence with which a perfectly ordinary acquaintance becomes somebody with a very large emotional problem and three minutes to describe it. You want the warm color at your back, the familiar trousers, an outfit that can be enthusiastic without requiring you to become professionally entertaining.

Your turn arrives. You remember most of the beginning, some of the middle, and considerably less of the ending than you had hoped. The group helps. Their assistance is generous and occasionally in another key.

When you step outside, it is still afternoon. A person passing asks whether you are celebrating something. You look at the friends emerging behind you, several of whom are still discussing their performances. You say you might be. Nobody seems to have settled on a reason yet.
