Seventeen clicks in six months. I had a graph. The old captions download button was plainly clutter, and removing it would give the page room to breathe. I used that phrase in the review. Nobody asked what the page had been doing with its lungs.

The change was beautifully small. A button disappeared, a gap closed, and the tests remained pleased with everything. I took before-and-after pictures. The after was tidier. I have sometimes mistaken that for a complete argument.

I had put on the plum scoop-neck tee with the black trousers because I was meeting someone after work and wanted to arrive as more than the person who would explain why a button couldn't move. For once, I had moved one. Straight out of existence. There was time to finish properly and leave.

Then a message arrived from the person putting together the printed catalog. Where had the captions download gone? They needed four hundred image captions, in order, by three. Seventeen clicks had been seventeen completed jobs. Apparently they had not been visiting the button recreationally.

I began a reply with 'Hardly anyone uses' and stopped in the middle. The remaining sentence was not going to improve the relationship. I asked which account they were using, although I already knew exactly where the button wasn't.

It was back before lunch. The gap reopened. The tests continued to approve, displaying a flexibility in their convictions I was beginning to envy. The catalog person downloaded the file and thanked me for being so quick.

At the afternoon catch-up, I said I had made an essential export easier to find. This was true compared with eleven o'clock. Nobody asked why it had become difficult. I turned my camera on.
