Found a Good Spot — Heavyweight Crewneck

You only meant to sit down while you answered a message. Then you noticed the bench was in exactly the right patch of light, with a decent view of absolutely nothing you needed to do. Leaving immediately would have been poor judgment. You put your phone away. A very small holiday began, without involving luggage or a conversation about check-in.

After a while, the place starts including you. A dog checks whether you have snacks. You explain that you do not, and it remains open to negotiation. Someone sits at the other end and lets out the sort of sigh that suggests you have chosen a respected establishment. Neither of you speaks. Across the path, a person attempts to open a folded chair with the confidence of somebody who has not yet met that particular chair.

You stay long enough to see the chair win once and lose once. The dog returns for an update. Nothing much has happened, which feels increasingly like the appeal. Eventually you will go home with the curious satisfaction of having been somewhere without extracting anything from it. You might even come back tomorrow. There is no need to make a thing of it. Your spot will continue being a bench.
