Someone introduces you to a person you have already met. You recognize them immediately. This is useful, because the introduction supplies their name at almost exactly the moment you discover you cannot.

They recognize you too. You both give a beautifully restrained performance of pleasure, carefully avoiding any phrase that would require you to account for the previous meeting. The person introducing you says they thought you would get on. You agree that this seems very likely. You have, in fact, already done some promising work in that direction.

There is a pleasure in turning up somewhere you are beginning to belong. The patterned crewneck feels right in the room. You know which chair needs a careful approach, where to leave a coat, and that the person who always sounds as though they are arguing is often making an enthusiastic recommendation. You are still learning the names. The room has kindly continued letting you in.

Later, your newly introduced acquaintance leans over and quietly asks you the host's surname. You tell them. They give you the name of the person coming toward you, without being asked. It is an unexpectedly elegant exchange.

By the end of the evening, the host is saying how glad they are that you two finally met. You look at each other. Neither of you sees any reason to complicate such a nice result.
