Bract — Long-Sleeve Tee

For the last three years you have worn black to this party. Good black, admittedly. Black with a considered shoe, black with something bright near the face, black that knew exactly what it was doing beside the same six people. This year you put on the long patterned top and look at yourself for a while. The old trousers seem delighted to have acquired a more opinionated companion.

You arrive before you have had time to reconsider. Someone at the door says your name as though the colors have reminded them of a story. You like that. You accept a drink, find the person you hoped would be there, and discover that they have brought somebody who has never heard about the terrible holiday.

This is an excellent development. The holiday has been waiting for a new audience.

You begin with the room. Your friend interrupts to point out that the room was fine. You agree that it had walls and a useful place to put a bed, then continue to the part about the window. The new person laughs at exactly the right moment. Across the room, someone turns to see what you are enjoying.

Later, you catch your reflection while looking for somewhere to put an empty glass. You still like the outfit. You like it even more now that it has been somewhere. Your friend comes over and asks whether you have reached the part about the window yet. You say there has been a request for the full account.
