Bracken — Heavyweight Crewneck

The glasshouse is warm enough to make the weather outside seem like a rumor. You stand just inside the door and take a moment to change the speed at which you are doing things. A large leaf holds a bead of water near its edge. You have arrived in time for something, although it is not yet clear what.

There are labels everywhere. You read a few, enjoy the length of the names, and discover that pronunciation is not going to be your principal contribution today. The leaves are easier company. One is folded like a badly kept secret. Another has found an impressive amount of surface area without consulting anybody about the available space.

You wore the plum crewneck because you wanted the dark color with the green trousers. Here it feels like a decision the room has quietly joined in with. You catch a glimpse of the combination in the glass, then turn back toward a plant that appears to be developing a second floor.

At a junction you choose the smaller path. It leads almost immediately to a much larger leaf. This seems a good return on the decision. You stand beneath it and listen to someone on the other side explaining that they have one of these at home, although theirs is currently having a difficult time.

The staff begin to move toward the doors. You take the long way back, stopping once more beside the first leaf. The water has gone. You look at the little mark it left, then at the new bead collecting a little farther along.
