A Little Reckless — Fitted Tee

You ask whether they would like to go out sometime, and then experience the fascinating silence in which a sentence exists outside you. You had been considering several more elegant approaches. A reference to a shared interest. A coincidence involving the same place. Something so casual that neither of you would have to admit how much information it contained. Apparently your mouth grew tired of the preparations.

They say yes. Quite quickly, in fact.

For a moment you continue explaining, because the explanation was already on its way. They let you get through half of it before pointing out that they have agreed. You stop. They look pleased. You discover that directness has a rather attractive effect on both of you.

You choose a day. You choose a time. The ordinary details are unexpectedly enjoyable now that there is something under them. Later, you think about the fitted tee you want to wear, the one with the color you keep returning to, and find that imagining the evening is already taking up a welcome amount of room.

A friend asks what happened. You tell them you made an invitation and it was accepted. They say this sounds straightforward. It was, eventually. You spare them the long private rehearsal and the sentence you nearly used about the weather.

Then a message arrives. Your date has found somewhere they would like to take you. You read the last line twice. It appears that the recklessness is mutual.
